RECOMMENDED SYSTEMS
Full Sand - 2 coats Hydroline Sealer + 1-2 coats Hydroline Plus, or StreetShoe.
Note – Substitute 2 coats of Commercial Catalyzed Sealer in high traffic commercial locations, or on white oak or other species to minimize tannin pull.
OVER STAIN
Allow oil stains to dry per manufacturer's directions or longer depending on environmental conditions. Apply 2 coats of Hydroline Sealer followed by StreetShoe or Hydroline Plus. A test board is recommended with any stain to insure compatibility and color acceptance.
SURFACE PREPARATION
- Before sanding, clean the floor using Basic Squeaky Cleaner following label instructions. Cleaning should be done to remove contaminants from the floor before sanding.
- Sand floors using accepted NOFMA/MFMA procedures. All old finish must be removed. A NIOSH dust mask should be worn during sanding.
- Finish sanding with a new 120-grit screen. DO NOT USE STEEL WOOL.
- Vacuum. Tack with a clean, dry Basic microfiber mop until all dust has been removed.
SEALER APPLICATION
Always maintain adequate ventilation during all phases of the coating and drying process.
- Use a stir stick to re-disperse any settlement. Rock container several times. Set aside for approximately 10 minutes to allow bubbles to break.
- Measure moisture content of floor in several areas. We recommend using a Wagner Dual Depth L607 Moisture Meter or equivalent.
- Rinse refill applicator and remove all excess water. This also helps to remove loose fibers.
- Edge out about 6 inches from the baseboard or wall with a paint pad or polyester brush. Stay within 2-3 feet of the puddle line to avoid lap marks, streaking or thicker film build. Be sure to feather the edge.
- Starting about one foot from the head wall, pour a 4-inch wide line of sealer the length of the floor going with the grain. Stop about three feet from the opposite wall. As close to the wall as possible, hold the applicator at a slight angle and drag it in a "squeegee" or "plowing" type motion to move the puddle from one side of the room to the other. Overlap two inches of the last pass and pull parallel passes until the entire floor is coated. Brush out all turns, stops, and other applicator marks brushing in the direction of the wood grain. Feather out turns with a painters pad after the t-bar has made the turn. Add sealer to the puddle-line when needed to maintain a wet edge across the room.
- When 2-3 feet from exiting wall, begin to taper the puddle-line down to a nickel size bead. Back out of the room by wetting small sections of the remaining floor, brushing away from you in the same direction as the grain of the wood.
- Allow each coat a minimum of 30-45 minutes to level.
- After sealer levels, place fans in an adjacent area to pull moisture away from the job site. When each coat has dried a minimum of 2-3 hours (under good conditions), re-measure moisture content. If moisture content is not equal to the first reading, allow more dry time before proceeding to the next application.
- If necessary, abrade between coats to remove debris, hair, drips, etc. or if the 24- hour window between coats has elapsed. Abrade with the pad and strip system using 180 - 240 grit sanding strips. Vacuum and tack with the Basic Microfiber Mop in between coats.
PAINTING GAME LINES
Apply any painted game lines after screening and cleaning the second coat of sealer. Refer to gymnasium technical literature for acceptable paints and painting procedures.
DRY TIME
Allow at least 2-3 hours between coats and 1 hour of good ventilation before closing job site. Keep air moving over floor for several hour
